Missionary Series 2 Mary Slessor

Mary Slessor was a single missionary to Africa's Calabar region. Before she became a missionary, Mary worked in a cotton mill. One Sunday, Mary and her friends were taking a walk when an old woman stepped out of her house to greet the girls. Mary recognized her from church. The old woman invited them in to sit by the fire and have some tea. She started to tell Mary and the girls about how to get saved. That day, Mary accepted the Lord in her heart and she felt very peaceful. She wanted to become a missionary. In 1875, Mary set up a meeting with the Foreign Mission Society. Today she would find out if there was a place in the mission field for a 28 year-old woman such as herself. A few minutes later, Mary burst out of the room with happiness in her heart. She was being sent to Calabar, Africa!

Calabar was a hard place to be a missionary, as Mary learned.
