The Son

There was once a man named Caleb that had a son. Caleb was fond of collecting art. When his son got older, he joined the army. Caleb prayed for his son everyday to be safe. But he got a letter in the mail saying that his son had been KIA. Caleb was sad but still continued to love God. One day a young man came to his door. When Caleb invited him in, he said, "I served alongside your son in the war. He was a nice guy. I know that this isn't much and I ain't the best drawer in the world, but, here."

Caleb accepted the frame from the young man and turned it over. Inside the glass, was a crude sketch of his  son. "You don't know how much this means to me!" he said. Caleb put the frame on the high mantle. It was the first thing that he showed to guests, even though it looked shabby next to the other great works of art that he collected.
Years past and Caleb became old, and finally died. An auction was set-up to sell his art. The auctioneer held the picture of Caleb's son.
"Who wants to bid fifty for the portrait of the son?" Nobody's hand went up. "How 'bout forty? Thirty? Twenty?"
"Can we get on to the good stuff?" somebody yelled.
" No, in his will, Caleb said that this one had to be sold before the other ones. Anybody? For ten? Right, the man in the back with the hat." The auctioneer pointed.
Caleb's old gardener knew how valuable the portrait was to his late employer. He bought the The Son.
"Floor closed." said the auctioneer.
"What? But what about the other valuable paintings?" said someone from the crowd.
"It was Caleb's wish that the person who bought The Son... got the other paintings."

The moral of this story is that if we accept God's son as his gift to us, we get it all. We get to tell everybody about it, have a constant friend, and get to live in Heaven someday.
